Glacier Thursday
Thursday morning had us at Many Glacier Lodge parking lot for sunrise. The sunrise was not all that colorful, but prior t sunrise the setting full moon did provide for some really lovely shots. On the way back to St. Mary my van load (skippy, Phyxius and April) stopped at St. Mary Lake via the campground. The trees along the lake were beautiful, the sky blue with whispy clouds. And there were eagles in them thar trees. My wildlife quest for the remainder of the trip was an eagle shot - bald and /or golden, adult or juve, I didn't really mind. I left my 20d, tripod and filters with skippy and April, and walked the shore with the 1D, 300mm plus 1.4XTC and Christina. I got eagles in my shots, but not any that you can really recognize!
That afternoons hike was to Grinnell Glacier. A few van loads of us dawdled along the route, stopping for bears(black bear sow with two young cubs) and eagles. We were well behind the others and hiked to Grinnel Lake rather than up to the Glacier. This was a really nice, gradual elevation change, 6 mile hike.
