Zion Day 1
Zion is a much different place than Bryce. While it is still a set of sandstone formations, the starting point is from within the valley, with giant sandstone peaks all around you. It reminded me alot of the Canadian Rockies, but for the mountain peaks being sandstone red rather that granite grey. I was not expecting the vegetation. Apparently (according to our shuttle bus driver) there are more plant species in Zion than in Hawaii. On the afternoon of our first day, Marc Muensch gave a talk about photography in general and photoshop in particular while we ate a wonderful lunch. We then met at about 5 p.m. and walked up to the Pools. Water levels at the pools were low, so the waterfall was quite petite. Strangely, we could not do the Narrows hike the next day as water levels were too high there.
